On your first visit, your SportsPlus doctor will establish whether or not your condition is appropriate for treatment at our office. If your condition is not appropriate for us to treat we will facilitate getting you to the appropriate provider. This may or may not include X-ray, MRI, CAT Scan, blood or lab work. Other providers we work with include orthopedic surgeons, neurologists, nutritionists, physical therapists, acupuncturists, massage therapists and strength and conditioning specialists. SportsPlus uses a timeline approach to treatment. Before treatment begins, we will discuss what kinds of improvements you can expect to see and when you can expect them. This provides a gauge by which you can determine if you are achieving your health and wellness goals through a particular course of therapy or treatment. Your timeline will follow the three stages of chiropractic care: acute, sub-acute and maintenance care. Acute Care: This is usually when patients first come to see us. The frequency of the visits depends upon the severity of the condition. Our primary focus is on stabilizing the affected area, decreasing swelling and pain, and increasing range and motion. Sub-Acute Care: After the resolution of acute problems, our objective is to stabilize spinal or joint function and promote a more complete healing. During this stage of care, we focus on strengthening the muscles and soft tissues of the joints in order to avoid a relapse. Our objectives are to continue decreasing pain and inflammation, to promote pain-free range of motion and to address weak muscles. Maintenance Care: Once spinal or joint function has been fully restored, many patients choose to have regular chiropractic "check-ups." This preventative approach can save you time and money by helping to prevent little problems from becoming serious, complex problems. When you are at this level of wellness, it is important to take precautions to prevent a relapse from occurring. Dr. Le Cara provides instruction on in-home exercises and stretches, and proper ergonomics, which are efficacious in controlling flare-ups. |
